The hotels of Damai/Santubong peninsula

Posted by James Chee on March - 20 - 2013

There are 4 tourist class hotels on the Damai peninsula namely Damai Beach Resort, Damai Puri, Permai Rainforest Resort and the One Santubong Hotel. All are within minutes drive from each other and clustered around the Sarawak Cultural Village and Damai Sentral, a food court cum recreational area.

Damai Puri Resort

Formerly known as the Holiday Inn Damai Lagoon, this property is almost 20 years old but is still a popular haunt for Kuching’s residents and oversea guests. It shares its beaches with Permai Rainforest Resort and has all the activities for the holiday makers and family. Probably the most luxurious of the four hotels on this beach.

Damai Puri has a short but lovely sandy beach looking out to the South China Sea.

Damai Beach Resort

The after-hour haunt of Kuching’s yuppies in the 80’s is the “Damai Holiday Inn” now known as Damai Beach Resort. This is the ultimate living it up for Kuching families in those days. Stories of many guests (mainly Europeans) spending their winter months here years after years made this place truly a home-away-from-home. A rather jaded property but nevetheless still much loved by Kuchingites who now prefer the good life in KL and elsewhere.

Damai Beach Resort’s spectacular Hill top villas is facing east, great for sunrise view.

The chalet on the ground of the Damai Beach Resort, great for getting near to the beach.

This resort is famous for the sunset. Don’t stay in the room during sunset!

Permai rainforest resort

The place to be for nature lovers and adventurous trekkers. Great for families getaways with its spacious chalets for large families and big groups. Also a popular place for team building as it has many activities like cycling, kayaking, mountain climbing and so on.  The restaurant is the place to be to watch spectacular sunset.

Permai Rainforest Resort – the canteen overlooking to the sea below. Another great spot for sunset.

Chalet at the Permai Rainforest Resort – very large room with 6 single beds per chalet.

One Santubong Hotel

Ideal for golf enthusiasts. It’s Arnold Palmer-designed course hugs the shoreline with the spectacular Mt. Santubong in the background. This is the only hotel here that does not have direct access to a beach, but makes that up with a gigantic swimming pool.

One Santubong Hotel – with its Arnold Palmer designed golf course, right by the sea.

Large swimming pool makes up for lack of a beach.

Plenty of space to run around for kids on holidays!
